"Meetup is the world's largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 2,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities."
The Charleston Sea Kayaking MeetUp Group is an informal community of more than 550 kayakers. The group's growing group of organizers schedule regular paddling trips in and around Charleston, South Carolina. The MeetUp Group is free to join, and for those with their own kayaks and equipment, paddles are free to attend — sponsorship by Sea Kyaka Carolina means that Group dues (for use of the MeetUp web site, scheduling and email services) are paid and the shop often makes inexpensive rental boats available for MeetUp members participating in group events.

Mostly the MeetUp Group provides an easy way for many of us to get out on the water — and meting and getting to know other paddlers in the area adds to the fun.
How Does It Work?
It is easy. The MeetUp web site manages all of the details in a very simple way: In order to join, all you need is a working email address: visit our group's page on their site and select "join" from the top menu — you will receive a confirmation email, and once you respond to it, you'll be a member. Members who have elected to become organizers can schedule events — the site automatically emails all members notifications and reminders of all scheduled events, and the interface provides RSVP and other options to track who and how many people may be attending an event.
In addition, the site allows users to post comments and photos, review their experiences, message other group members and participate on discussion boards.
