SEA KAYAK CLASSES, TOURS and EVENTS: August–September, 2008

Sunday, August 24, 9 a.m. – Introduction to Sea Kayak Surfing.  Join us for an introduction to handling your sea kayak in the surf.  We’ll cover launching, landing, and, of course, bracing (your best friend in the surf). 4 hours – $60.
 
Sunday, August 24, 12:30 p.m. – Kayak Rescue Class.  “What do I do if my partner or I capsize?”  Join us for this half day rescue session learning and refining a variety of self and assisted rescues. $50.
 
Thursday, August 28, 6:30 p.m. – Fundamentals of Lowcountry Kayaking.  (classroom session with on-water sessions Saturday and Sunday.)  This is a fun, intensive course that covers:  kayaks and gear, strokes and maneuvers, rescues, weather, tides and currents, trip planning and more.  $150.
 
Saturday, August 30, 9 a.m. – Fundamentals of Lowcountry Kayaking on water day 1.

Saturday, August 30, 10 a.m. – Deveaux Bank Kayak Adventure.  Seabird nesting colonies on Deveaux Bank are protected, so access to this beautiful island is limited. Paddling to the access provides lovely views of the barrier island habitat.   About 6 hours – $60.

Sunday, August 31, 9 a.m. – Fundamentals of Lowcountry Kayaking on water day 2.

Sunday, August 31, 12 noon – Stono River to Kiawah.  We’ll launch from the Battery Island Landing (Sol Legare Road) and paddle down the Stono River to land on Kiawah, and return. 4 hours – $50.

Saturday, September 6, 9 a.m. – Introduction to Kayaking.  This is a crash course in kayaking – you’ll learn how to be safe and have fun as you begin to kayak.  Topics include: safety, boat fit, getting in and out of your kayak (gracefully), basic paddle strokes, wet exit – $50.

Saturday, September 20, 10 a.m.  – Relaxed Oak Island Circumnavigation.  A gently paddle on the Folly River. A very nice way to spend the day, and a great trip for beginning paddlers. About 3 hours – $40.

Sunday, September 21, 10 a.m. – Kayak Rescue Class.  “What do I do if my partner or I capsize?”  Join us for this half day rescue session learning and refining a variety of self and assisted rescues.  $50.

Saturday, September 27, 10 a.m. – Morris Island Lighthouse Adventure.  Ride the tide on the Folly River… destination Morris Island.  Some kayak experience recommended due to the length of this trip. $60.

Sunday, September 28, 11 a.m. – Folly River to Bird Key.  We'll stop on a neighboring sandbar as Bird Key is a protected seabird nesting preserve. This is a great beginner trip – and a great trip for nature lovers.  About 4 hours – $50.
